Holmefield is a small holding built in the 1930s. It was originally used as a rabbit breeding farm and more recently, home to cattle and sheep who helped to keep the grass down. The Tamblin family purchased the property in November 2021 with the aim of sharing this lovely location with friends and families coming to enjoy all the area has to offer. We have recently refurbished the main house and replaced an ageing static caravan with a new glamping pod. Please excuse any inconvenience as we continue to improve the site by renovating two outbuildings in the back field.
The spectacular views from the front of the house are over Cloughton Bank and Reasty Forest. There are plenty of good walks in the forest area. From the fields at the back, you can see the North Sea and Scarborough Castle in the distance. You are welcome to use the back fields and enjoy the views, but please do not approach the construction site and keep yourselves and any pets clear of the building site and associated hazards. Please be conscious we may have sheep in the fields or guests with pets in the glamping pod, so please check with us before taking your dogs into the fields and keep dogs under control at all times.
The convenience of the main road taking guests to Scarborough or Whitby and the Holmefield bus stop make it easy to get to some amazing places in a flash, but please beware for pets and children. The front is not secure, and it is a fast road.
It’s very important to us that you have an enjoyable stay – if there is anything we can do to improve your experience, please do share that feedback with us so we can improve.
Kind Regards,
Karen Tamblin

Things to do
- Scalby Village is a short, (half mile) walk from the house. If you turn left out of the drive (you will pass the Rugby Club on the way). There you will find two cafes: Daisy Tea Rooms on the main road and Yew Tree Cafe in the village. Foulsyke cafe and bistro is just beyond the duck pond and offers a lovely dining experience. There are also two pubs in the centre of the village – The Plough (also a restaurant AA award) and the Nags Head. Both dog friendly.
- The Rugby Club (Rugby, Cafe, Bar (no dogs allowed) + Sports Centre) is 300m away from the house (left out of driveway) and offers classes you can take as a non-member, like yoga and pilates. You can find a timetable here.
- It is home to our town’s excellent rugby team. The team currently plays in the North East One League and has been home to former England players such as Robert Michael Marshall, as recently as 1938.
- The ground was built in 2009 at the cost of £4m and includes a clubhouse, fitness centre, all-seater grandstand, five full size pitches (two of which have floodlights), five mini pitches, a cricket pitch.
- The J.M. Guthrie Clubhouse contains three bars, Harley’s cafe-bar (a coffee shop no dogs allowed) meeting and function rooms, a snooker room, eight changing rooms and the club shop, while the Barons fitness centre contains a sports hall, four squash courts, two state of the art gyms and two fitness studios.
- There is a lovely cafe (which does a good breakfast) and bars on site and is open to the public:
- Monday – Friday 8am to 10pm
- Saturday 8.30am to 6pm
- Sunday 9am to 6pm
- There is a lovely cafe (which does a good breakfast) and bars on site and is open to the public:
- Burniston Village. If you turn right out of the drive, you’ll find Burniston village just up the road. There is a post office, and the Jolly Sailors, a popular pub restaurant. The Oak Wheel pub and restaurant is another option in Burniston. Both are dog friendly.
- The Old Railway Line / Cinder Track. The cinder track is accessible from either village or a track at the side of the Rugby Club. The cinder track runs from Scarborough to Whitby and is popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders.
